Competitors with a range of disabilities converged on Ratcliffe College on Sunday 7th April 2024 to take part in the Rotary District 1070 Disability Games.
Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club took part by leading the basketball event. We arrived early to set up and, of course, check out the hoops.
Soon, the competitors started to arrive. It was fantastic to see over 50 competitors taking part in the basketball event, across a range of ages and abilities. Many were very keen to win the event but everybody was good natured and had a lot of fun - especially our team of helpers.
During the day we were visited by our AG Malcolm and DG David, who couldn't resist having a go himself, as well as the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Michael Kapur OBE CStJ.
After a tense shoot out, the basketball competition provided two worthy winners pictured here, along with a close-up of the trophies they received. Many congratulation to them both.
The games take part annually, moving to a different location every two years to allow access to participants from all over our district. The event is organised by a team of Rotarians from district 1070.
The games has a range of events including boccia, new age kurling, table tennis, swimming, weight lifting, darts and wheelchair racing, as well as basketball.
Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club look forward to taking part again next year.
