Local Rotary Clubs join forces, raising £2000 to help provide over 240 coats for local children in need

On Saturday 21st September, Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club, with great support and sponsorship from the Rotary Clubs of Ashby de la Zouch and Ashby de la Zouch Castle, organised a Race Night at Lingdale Golf Club.

The event was a tremendous success, as all 88 tickets were sold out, creating a happy, bustling atmosphere. Attendees were treated to a delightful evening filled with food, drink and entertainment.

The serious aim of the evening was to raise funds for Coats4Kids, a fantastic charity that provide new, warm winter coats for children from families in need. This means the children arrive at school warm and dry and ready to start the day.

Thanks to the amazing generosity of everyone involved, the event raised over £2,000. We were then overwhelmed to hear that Coats4Kids has been able, on this occasion, to provide a significant top-up to our amount raised, meaning that 243 coats will be provided to local children - a truly incredible achievement!

The evening started with the virtual races, where participants could place bets and experience the thrill of cheering for their chosen horse.

Next came a break, giving everybody a chance to compare winnings and catch up with friends over delicious food, thanks to the attentive and helpful staff at Lingdale.

In addition to the races, the event featured games that brought out the competitive spirit in attendees, adding an extra layer of excitement and entertainment.

The evening gave us an opportunity to celebrate the birthdays of Helen and Fran who were presented with his and hers caterpillar cakes.

As the evening drew to a close, a raffle was held, offering everyone an opportunity to win a prize. We appreciate the businesses that contributed prizes, including a dinner for two at Brownstone Bistro and two photography vouchers from Phillip Anthony Photography. Many prizes had a horse theme, such as a day at the actual races, matching horse bath mittens, a horse calendar, a pony skipping rope, and even a horse squeaky dog toy.

We also want to express our gratitude to local businesses including Pall-Ex, Aggregate Industries, Brownstone Bistro, Pastiche, and Hillside K9 Services who each provided generous additional sponsorship.

We'd like to thank everybody who attended to help raise such an amazing amount to support our local community. We're also grateful to those who helped on the night and to everybody at Lingdale Gold Club. A special mention goes to Les for providing the race brochures and for running the races. We were pleased that DG Chris and his wife Jayne, along with DGE Moira, found time in their busy schedules to enjoy the evening with us.

Overall, the event was a perfect blend of socialising, entertainment, and friendly competition, leaving all attendees with lasting memories of a truly fantastic evening.
