Helping Forest Way School

Don Bailey

Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club held a Bottle Tombola during the Christmas Light Switch on event held during the 2024 Christmas period. We had decided that Forest Way School would be one of the beneficiaries of the proceeds made from the event, and in particular, for a group of 16+ students who wanted to undertake some gardening project(s).

On Tuesday 25th February, several of our club members visited the school to find out in more detail what their needs are. We were first given a tour of the school, and we were all extremely impressed with the facilities the school offered the pupils. Following the general tour, we were taken to the 16+ area where we met some of the pupils who would be benefitting from our assistance. They presented us with a card thanking the club for helping them.

We then moved on to the wooded patio area where the planned work would be undertaken. The first request, as indicated in above message sent to us, was to provide a wooden bench in memory of a former student who recently passed away. The students would apply the necessary treatment to the bench and attach a memorial plaque on the bench. In addition, we talked about providing some raised planters that the student can use liven up the patio area with plants, vegetables etc. Below are a few photos showing the area as it looks now, and we will provide updates as the work progresses.

We will keep you updated on the planned work as it progresses.
